Who is behind Little Village?

Emily Bird, Founder & Teacher

Emily earned a Master’s of Arts in International Education from American University, where she studied the big ideas (policy, comparative education systems) and the dynamics of learning (curriculum design, training) for youth and adults. She built a solid nonprofit career in program development, grant writing, and partnership building for several child and youth centered service organizations before stepping away to focus full time on parenting. Emily is no stranger to young children, loving the whirlwind of having three of her own, ages 6, 5, and 2. Over the years, she has been an avid community and school volunteer while freelancing in her spare (?) time. She enjoys writing, cooking, spending time in the garden, and being with her family and friends.

Hi, I’m Emily (she/her). I have always been curious about our big world and at the same time have always craved community here at home. And I have come to find that we need both to thrive. I am passionate about education and consider myself a lifelong learner. As a mother to three amazing kids, I enjoy the little discoveries scattered across childhood, the little miracle milestones that bloom almost everyday as our little ones grow. When I think of what I would like more of in the world, a lot can be found in the lives and spirits of young children - curiosity, wonder, affection, and play. My hope for Little Village is to foster that curiosity and community in a nurturing environment for our littlest learners.
